Forum Title: Concerned about carpet problem
Hello, I bought a new carpet in last Jan for my bedroom and I picked Shaw Design Texture Platinum (known as Color Wall, weight is 53-55 oz), so it is Anso Nylon and the padding is 8 pounds. I'm only one person that frequently traffic to my room and have to vacuum at 1-2 times per week. The appearance of this carpet has been changed in traffic area and the pile was used to be straight up, and it was feel like new, but after months, the pile started become wavy and compressed with other pile. It looks like crushed and only can recover with vacuum to stiff the pile up, but it won't same as like new at first time. I believe that Shaw warranty said that change in appearance should be not more than 10% and I'm not sure if it is normal with wear for nylon carpet. I know about polyester carpet is much worse and it can be matted easily in high traffic, and more difficult to stiff up with vacuum. It was like change from thicker at new to totally flatten eventually. I used to had polyester carpet so not anymore. The difference with nylon is ability to maintain the thickness, so it was thickest at first and went down to thicker after heavy traffic and wear. I'm not sure about Mohawk SmartStrand like Intelligent Style and Supreme Intellect. If you are owner of those carpet so how is both of carpet after 1 year with heavy traffic? Does pile goes wavy and compressed like Shaw nylon carpet did? Please excuse for my language because English wasn't my first language, so I'm fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). There is picture with my carpet - NEW (in last Jan) vs. NOW (today) When new carpet installed so it looks like that. After high traffic and wear so it looks like that.

Are you using a Dyson vacuum. Some vacuums can be too rough on carpet and twice per week is a little too often to use an aggressive vacuum.

Minor blooming of the tips of the tufts. Perfectly normal. The carpet gets walked on and some appearance change should be expected. Most people do not realise the the flooring is the most abused surface in the home. Your counter tops do not see foot traffic, your cabinets, and furniture do not either.

Yes, I use Dyson vacuum and keep roller brush clear, free from hairs or dirts. I usually every week so often, but sometime, twice in week as needed. Chris Mha said: ? Oh I learn a new thing about minor blooming and now and I understand about how change the appearance. You are correct about flooring got most abused since other stuffs like wall, countertop, furniture won't. Does Mohawk SmartStrand has blooming problem, similar to Shaw carpet with Anso Nylon?
